Ayurvedic Soap

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word derived from 'ayur' which means life, and 'veda', knowledge. Knowledge arranged systematically with logic becomes science, in this case the "science of life". This ancient holistic system of natural medical science is practised widely in Kerala, southern India, where it originated around 5000 years ago. In scope it encompasses our entire being - body, mind and spirit - and in practise is a way of life. Good health is achieved by striking a balance between our physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual states. Ayurveda is more about the prevention of, rather than a 'quick-fix' response to, illness. Every individual is seen as having a unique genetic inheritance and mixture of different personal qualities. To understand individuality is the foundation of healing.

All ingredients used in the products are entirely natural, derived from plants and herbs, with no chemical or artificial additives or animal fats. They are not tested on animals and have no side-effects. They are obtained from an ayurvedic research institution in Quilon (Kollam), southern Kerala, all proceeds from which are donated to fund community projects undertaken by the nearby Mata Amritanandamayi Mission, a non-sectarian non-political charitable trust.

Product List

Soaps - these hand-made, all natural toiletries.
The select herbal oils, including pure coconut oils, nourish the skin and lather well.

Five types will shortly be available: rose, sandalwood, lime, tulasi and ramacham.

Currently, rose and lime are in stock.

Rose- has a refreshing fragrance and is very gentle on the skin.

Lime (Citrus Aurantifolia) - is deep cleansing, refreshing and stimulating. It is also known for its cooling effect on the body and acts as a muscle relaxant. Lime is much used in cosmetics for its natural deodorising properties and therefore this soap is ideal for use after sports or simply as a refreshing treat. In ayurvedic terms, this soap will increase 'vata', the air element and decreases 'pitta', fire and 'kapha', water.
